Relocation of Royal Australian Navy Fleet Base East to the Port of Port Kembla

In June 2015, an Illawarra consortium developed a bold opportunity for the relocation of the Royal Australia Navy (RAN) Fleet Base East from its current constrained environment at Garden Island in Sydney to the Port of Port Kembla.  Port Kembla presents an opportunity for the RAN to leverage a deep harbour, industrial environment as well as skilled workforce.

This initiative has bipartisan support, including that of local federal members of parliament, Stephen Jones and Sharon Bird, alongside Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.
